Eric Schmidt, the executive chairman of Google, was appointed last month to a commission advising New York State on how to invest $2 billion it plans to spend on technology in schools. Google does a brisk business marketing its software to schools. Consumer Watchdog, an advocacy group, has filed an ethics complaint with a state agency, claiming a conflict of interest.
