E-cigarette startup Juul has 60 days to prove it can keep its devices out of the hands of kids, the US Food and Drug Administration said today, or else the company’s flavored products might be taken off the market.
Juul isn’t the only company that the FDA has targeted in a new crackdown on e-cigarettes. It has given similar warnings to five other e-cig companies — MarkTen, Vuse, MarkTen, Blu, and Logic — that, together with Juul, make up almost the entirety of the US e-cig market. The agency has also issued warning letters to over 1,000 retailers that illegally sold Juul to minors.
A Juul spokesperson said that the company plans to “work proactively with FDA” and is “committed to preventing underage use of our product.”
